The death
of a close and loved relative or friend is arguably one of the
most challenging experiences that we are called upon to cope with
in our lifetime. The bereavement service offers supportive and
emotional care to those who are coping with such losses and is
an integral part of the holistic care that is offered by the hospice.
We acknowledge that loss is a unique and individual experience
that can be very isolating. Each one of us will express loss
through our grief in our own personal way.
Grief caused by bereavement is a natural response and this personal
journey can give rise to strong feelings such as sadness, anger,
helplessness, guilt and despair. At times these emotions may
be very hard to bear.
For some people, having the opportunity to talk to someone who
is not connected to their family or friends in any way can be
helpful. The Sobell House Bereavement team has trained volunteers
and professional staff who are able to provide confidential support
at this time, and seek to help with the psychological consequences
of the loss of a loved one.

This support

may arise following your bereavement and is offered by sensitive
individuals, who have the capacity to listen in an open and unbiased
way. It is possible to be seen in your own home, or if you would
