Study
Days and Courses
The Study Centre offers a wide range of study days, courses and conferences
in many aspects of palliative care. These are delivered by specialist staff
working at Sobell House and by an invited faculty of external teachers to
ensure that our courses deliver up-to-date knowledge and reflect best practice.
Courses range from short half day sessions to two and three day courses and
attract a variety of participants – from volunteers to experienced
health care practitioners, locally, nationally and internationally.

Education and Training for Sobell House Staff
Sobell House is committed to the professional development of all staff and
volunteers in order to ensure that patients and their families benefit from
quality care, and an education fund enables staff to attend courses where
possible. The Study Centre has a specialist palliative care library providing
access to specialist journals and books. Many staff study diploma or degree
courses in palliative care mainly offered by Oxford Brookes University and
intellectual stimulation is provided by House forums, journal clubs, reflective
practice discussions and interactions with visitors from the UK and overseas.

Opportunities
to visit Sobell House
The Study Centre also supports the dissemination of knowledge by co-ordinating
requests to visit Sobell House. There are regular opportunities for half
day visits that provide an overview of our work and the chance to meet with
specialist staff. We also offer tailor made programmes for individuals and
groups and one or two week clinical placements. For further information about
our visitors programme see Visitors.
